Looks like they’re losing this one..

Desperation is sad.  Teabaggers can’t even get enough money collected to recall Democrats in Wisconsin – here, they are BEGGING to collect $15,000.00 for their efforts. While MoveOn.org has collected nearly $1,000,000.00.  Also note, this nutjob uses the word “liberal” like it’s a dirty word ::Gasp::

In just one week, voters in Wisconsin will decide whether the state's Supreme Court will become dominated by liberals - who will throw out Gov. Walker's legislative victory over the public employee labor unions - or if it will remain a Court with a center-right tilt grounded in the Constitution.

We here at the Tea Party Express have just opened a new Wisconsin State PAC and tomorrow will begin running a new TV ad campaign that will fight to keep the Court grounded in the Constitution.  If we are successful then Gov. Scott Walker and "We The People" win.  If we lose Barack Obama wins.

We just have to raise $15,000 in the next 18 hours to get our first round of TV ads on the airwaves. You can now donate to our Wisconsin State PAC - DONATE HERE.

If you need want to donate to help our cause and get these dumbasses out, please go to MoveOn.org to make a donation!!!

Let’s make this a win for Progressives, Democrats and just to piss off the Tea Party Express, a major win for President Barack Obama!!!

Go!!!  NOW!!!  Please!!  Smile  Thank you!!!

E-Mails from Desperate Teabaggers…

I thought I was going to bed, but got this in my e-mail from the Tea Party Express (again, not sure how I got on their mailing list).  Looks like they are running scared!!!  Also, by reading this, I can picture the person typing this e-mail on the verge of tears. Links from original e-mail have been deleted.

We told you this weekend about the critical election taking place one week from tomorrow for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.  If we lose, then liberals will block Gov. Scott Walker's new budget relief legislation and Barack Obama and the labor unions will win.

It would be devastating for conservatives and constitutionalists if we lose.  Every Republican Governor across America would cave to Obama and the unions on every issue imaginable - heck a lot of them do that now already, just think what climate it would be like if we ended up losing in Wisconsin after we had initially obtained a great victory.

We here at the Tea Party Express have just opened a new Wisconsin State PAC and are launching a campaign to support the conservative Supreme Court Justice and oppose the radical leftist opposing him. We can now reveal to you, our supporters, that we are just finishing a new TV ad which we will unveil to you tomorrow and which will run statewide across Wisconsin.

We must raise $45,000 in the next 36 hours to get our first round of TV ads on the airwaves. You can now donate to our Wisconsin State PAC - DONATE HERE.

If you can afford a larger contribution of $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or more, then please help us.

You can contribute any amount up to the maximum allowed limit of $5,000.  And since we're in a new election cycle, those of you who had previously "maxed out" are once again able to contribute as much as you'd like - all the way up to that $5,000 maximum.

If you need want to donate to help our cause and get these dumbasses out, please go to MoveOn.org to make a donation!!!

Go!!!  NOW!!!  Please  Smile  Thank you!!!

Second Nature

A memo to a higher office
Open letter to the powers-that-be
To a God, a king, a head of state
A captain of industry
To the movers and the shakers-
Can't everybody see?

It ought to be second nature-
I mean, the places where we live!
Let's talk about this sensibly-
We're not insensitive
I know progress has no patience-
But something's got to give

Second Nature by Rush – Lyrics by Neil Peart

  • I am a liberal.
  • I am a progressive.
  • I am a Democrat (of the Democratic Party).
  • I am Agnostic.
  • I have no issued with people who worship (just don’t push your beliefs on me).
  • I fight for what I believe is right.
  • I believe in equal justice under the law.
  • I don’t hate Republicans or Conservatives (as people) because of what they believe.
  • I believe the rich and big business should pay their fair share of taxes.

I make no apologies for any of those statements.

Which brings me to why I’m writing tonight. I was once called a “bigot” on Facebook by someone for the beliefs I hold.  I may disagree on many issues with the other side of the political spectrum, but I do not hate.  I know there isn’t much for common ground in today’s political climate with the vitriol on the right and the caving by some on the left, but I still don’t hate.

What keeps me grounded are facts.  If I don’t believe something, I look it up.  If I make a statement or post something (on, say, Facebook, Twitter or my blog) and someone may disagree with it, I am ready to back up any comments with facts.  Facts are funny things – they usually put people in their place.  As the quote (attributed to) by Daniel Patrick Moynihan goes: “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.”

I am an avid listener of Progressive Radio – something that Las Vegas has nothing of, so I pay for XM Radio to hear voices that lean towards what I think and feel.  I watch MSNBC mostly, and at times, CNN.  I’ll admit I used to watch FOX “News” when it first came online, and every now and then I’ll watch Shepard Smith, but it’s a rare event.  I listen to Randi Rhodes and she always says (paraphrasing) “Don’t believe me or anyone else on the radio – look it up” – and I’m not afraid to do just that.

I’ve written about my religious beliefs before (here and here) so I won’t go into details again.  As I said above in my bullet points, I am Agnostic. As Merriam-Webster online defines it: “a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god”, which would define me perfectly.  I have an open mind and there are things I just can’t wrap my head around, which is why I believe the way I do, but I still wouldn’t call my self an Atheist. Just don’t try to push your beliefs on me unless you have archeological or scientific proof to back up your points.

As a kid, I read some Ayn Rand.  Most notably, Anthem and The Fountainhead.  I tried to read Atlas Shrugged, but gave up because it was the most boring fucking book I ever picked up. (I have We The Living, but never cracked the spine).  Most of my early reading was influenced by Neil Peart (Drummer and Lyricist for Rush) and some his early lyrics were based on books by Rand.  What I got most out of her writings (that I read) was for the concept of individualism.  I never took to the political arguments she espoused.  I do believe, however, we all have rights, but I also believe government is there for a reason – to regulate, tax, promote the general welfare of the people and protect the populace.  There are no free market societies – it’s been tried in South America by that nutjob Milton Friedman and it all failed miserably (see Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein).

Again, I don’t hate.  I may disagree with you or your ideas, but I don’t hate you for it.  I may have different beliefs than you, but I won’t hate you for it.  You may be a different color or have a different ethnic background than me, but I won’t hate you for it. You might have different political views than me, but I don’t hate you for it.

Today is different,
And tomorrow the same
It's hard to take the world
The way that it came
Too many rapids
Keep us sweeping along
Too many captains
Keep on steering us wrong
It's hard to take the heat-
It's hard to lay blame
To fight the fire-
While we're feeding the flames

Deeper thoughts…

With all these different States banning “Sharia Law”, it got me thinking… and the only thought that comes to mind is “What the fuck!!!”  With the way things are going in this country, and the right wing people who are filling the various benches across the land, I’m sure they would use Old Testament types of verdicts. But I digress…

When I went to high school many moons ago, I learned of a thing call “Separation of Church and State”, so any type of court ruling or new law passed would have to pass Constitutional muster – not Torah, Biblical or Koran muster.  We, here in these United States, do not follow rules set up in Leviticus or we’d all be banned from eating pork – and that would be sad since Denny’s is having a glorious bacon promotion (even a bacon sundae – gross as it may sound).

I’m not a religious person and really never got into it, even though I was raised Roman Catholic.  I see a world in a broader view where people have rights beyond what  any religious text might say.  The law of our land comes from Washington D.C.. not Rome or any other religious seat in the world.

To change our laws to reflect that of some religious book, we would have to drastically change out Constitution or there would have to be an overthrow of the government – which I don’t see either of those things happening anytime soon.  People come to this country for the freedoms we hold, such as the freedom to worship (or not worship), freedom of speech, freedom to move about freely.

This has nothing to do with “Sharia Law” as I see it – it is more of an attack on those of the Muslim faith.  People in the “heartland” are afraid of that of which they do not understand.  What happens in the streets of Iran or Saudi Arabia is different from what happens in the streets of Kansas or Oklahoma.  The people of Kansas or Oklahoma have the freedom to be who they are, think what they want, and pray the way they want to pray.  No one is going to take that away from them.  The best word I can think of is “paranoia”.  They are all paranoid and need to get a grip.  Franklin D. Roosevelt said it best – “The only thing we have to fear is…  Fear itself.”

So, in closing, we as a nation can laugh at these states who have taken paranoia to a whole new level.  I know that the Constitution is on my side, and not some boogieman lurking in the shadows waiting to stone me for something written in a 2,000 year old book.  So, it’s time to get over the fear and start living and acting like human beings and give up the mob mentality.  We can all learn to coexist in peace and harmony.

Right Wing Pigs!!!

Here I thought these asswipes loved money!! Apparently not!! Handwritten on this $10 Bill:  Harry Reid has sex with his son!

I was verifying some money (yes, I work with money) and I noticed this bad looking bill and pulled it as bad and noticed what was written on it.  I couldn’t believe someone would write such a thing, especially on U.S. currency.

Whoever wrote this is apparently a mouth breathing, inbred piece of shit loser. Hey you, who ever wrote that in the bill:  Fuck You!!!

Um?? WTF!!! This is insanity at it’s worst!!!

I have no problem with religion or people who worship, but I draw the line at praying for disasters to show another class of people of their “wicked ways.”  The crazy nut job in the video below is jubilant that an earthquake practically devastates a country because they are “Atheists”. What the fuck is this person talking about???  Just because they don’t practice Christianity, doesn’t make them “atheists” or wicked.
Shinto and Buddhism are Japan's two major religions. They have been co-existing for several centuries and have even complemented each other to a certain degree. Most Japanese consider themselves Buddhist, Shintoist or both.
Religion does not play a big role in the everyday life of most Japanese people today. The average person typically follows the religious rituals at ceremonies like birth, weddings and funerals, may visit a shrine or temple on New Year and participates at local festivals (matsuri), most of which have a religious background.
People like this are dangerous.  Not only dangerous to others, but may be dangerous to themselves.  Who the fuck prays for mass destruction??  Who the fuck prays for people to die??? And, finally, who the fuck would post a video of themselves boasting about prayers being answered???  Apparently this nut case is an “End Timer”, rather than a “Temple on the Mounter”  If there is a Hell, I hope there’s a special place reserved for her.  She is what I would call EVIL!!!  Hey Girly-Girl – Fuck you!!!

E-mails from crazy spammers…

I’m not quite sure how I get onto some mailing lists, but some how I do.  I’ve been receiving e-mails that sound more desperate that those of Ron Paul and his crazy band of crackpots.  These e-mails are from two different “gun rights” organizations.  I rarely read them and just delete them, but tonight I decided I would take a look at them.  But what I noticed were that they both had the same signature at the bottom of them – Alan M. Gottlieb.  The names of the two “groups” are Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms & Second Amendment Foundation.

From what I read, both read like something out of a bad Glenn Beck deluded dream. Help!!  They are going to take away my guns!!!  They want to release names of gun owners!!!  Not that I care about the last one, but in the 43 years I’ve been alive, I’ve never seen anyone take anyone’s guns away.  I’ve seen laws to restrict certain kinds of clips or bullets be banned, but no one has walked up to “Joe Hunter” and demanded he give up his shotgun.

After a quick internet search on the shrieking shrill who sent me these e-mails, I soon discovered the following from his Wiki page:

In 1984 Gottlieb was convicted of tax fraud and spent 8 months in a work release program. As a convicted felon, Gottlieb forfeited his right to own guns, but he regained that right in 1985 under a federal law allowing individuals of good character to apply for relief from that legal disability.

But what most distresses me about these e-mails were the blatant use of fundraising through the use of fear:

“STOP THIS BEFORE IT SPREADS TO YOUR STATE... PLEASE SEND YOUR FAXES AND DONATIONS NOW!”

is what it reads in one.

In another:

Please CLICK HERE to donate to the Second Amendment Foundation as we continue to defend our Constitutional right to bear arms. Liberals have made it clear that they want to take away the rights of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves with firearms. WE CANNOT LET THIS CONTINUE. Criminals will always obtain weapons, but we cannot ban the average citizen the ability to obtain a firearm simply because liberals think that will somehow reduce violence.

We need your financial help to win this lawsuit and end this assault on our Second Amendment rights.

I get many e-mails from Progressive groups and Democratic pols, but they never sound so desperate that they need to beg.  These loons make it sound like the world will end if they don’t get your $5.  With some of the Ron Paul mailers, I really think the person who is typing it is either on the verge of desperation or tears. Help!!! The liberals are coming!!!  The Liberals are coming!!!  Give me a fucking break!!!

Take it down a notch dudes – you’ll survive!!!  Take a deep breath, and let it out.  You’ll drive yourself crazy before you drive us progressives crazy….

Territories

You see it daily.  Flags American flags flying from cars passing you on the road.

You hear it daily on Fox “News” and rightwing radio.  This person or that person is not American or has anti-American views.

You see Tea Party people calling people in the political realm with whom they disagree Communists, Socialists, Statists, etc.. yet have no idea of what they are talking about.

I am an American.  I am proud to be an American.  I value my rights as an American.  I don’t take my rights for granted, unless someone attempts to take my rights away.

What I don’t need is someone telling me I’m not an American for having progressive/liberal views.  I am not a Socialist, but I believe there should be a level playing field when it comes to taxes or healthcare.  What I don’t need is to hear someone telling me I’m not an American because I don’t believe in unnecessary wars against unarmed countries such as Iraq.  What I don’t need to hear is someone telling me I’m not an American because I disagree with a former president’s views on torture or wiretapping American citizens without a warrant.  I also don’t need someone telling me I have Socialist views because I support President Obama. Everyone has the right to an opinion, but no one has the right to their own facts or twisting the facts to fit their agenda.  If I tell you something is black, and show you it’s black, you can’t say to me it’s gray.

Yes, there are Blue states and Red States; Liberals and Conservatives; people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, and religions; but what makes this country great is we are the United States.  We live under one Constitution and pledge allegiance to the same flag.  The flag a conservative sees is somehow different from the flag I see – but they are wrong. The flag is a symbol of hope to some. It is a symbol of freedom – and a freedom I hold close to my heart, and no one can change that or claim I have anti-American views.

I know people of color, yet I have never questioned their citizenship.  I know people of different religions, yet have never said it was the wrong religion.  I know people with sexualities that differ from mine, but never told them they were bad people.  I know women, but have never thought they deserved less than what I have or make.  I know Conservatives, but even though we disagree on many issues, I’ve never told them they can’t have those views.  What makes me proud is that we live in a country where we can all live together and be allowed to be different.  The United States is still, and always will be, a great melting pot.  I live in a city where I meet people who are from all over the world.  I’ve learned about many cultures and different ways of life that differed from my upbringing in a small city.  I’ve learned to ask questions and opened my mind to thoughts of lives lived in other lands.  Which is why I believe people with closed minds rarely have a chance at really living.

The First Amendment is something I hold close to my heart, as well.  Which how I can tie all of the above mish-mash of thoughts together.  I have as much right to speak my opinions as anyone else.  You have as much right to worship as I chose not to.  But we all have the right to assemble and protest the government.  Take away these rights, and we as a country are lost.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

So, car flag person or lapel flag person – I’m no different from you.  I have different ideas and dreams,  I have different opinions.  So, to co-opt the Constitution or Flag as your own, you’re only fooling yourself.  As you’re pondering pulling out your little yellow flag with the coiled snake and yelling at us, let me be the first to say to you: DON’T TREAD ON ME!!!

They're Magically Delicious...

Faithless…

I consider myself Agnostic.  I was raised Roman Catholic.  I have no problem with religion nor with people who practice their religion (unless, of course, someone tries to push their faith on me).  What has been bothering me the most are Conservative/Republican politicians who call themselves Christian, but, in my opinion, do no follow the teachings of the Bible. They are hypocrites, plain and simple. Their gods are corporations, the rich and the almighty dollar.

Take for instance their need to take away funding that aids the poor.  They are willing to take away from these people and hand these monies over to the rich and multibillion dollar corporations:

Deuteronomy 15:7, 11
If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.

Their need to constantly go after undocumented people:

Deuteronomy 24:14
Do not take advantage of a hired man who is poor and needy, whether he is a brother Israelite or an alien living in one of your towns

Their need to take away Social Security and Medicare (and the chances they might want to turn these two programs over to corporations and Wall Street – which is another reason for them to steal it all):

Matthew 25:41-45
Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least among you, you did not do for me.'

Giving tax breaks to corporations, as most have a negative tax rate (meaning they end up getting a tax refund with all they loopholes given to them):

1 Timothy 6:17-19
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Also, there is this need for them to deny rights to the homosexual community by imposing their beliefs upon them by denying their right to marry.  If they are so concerned about one line in Leviticus regarding man lying with another man, then they should be concerned with the rest of the Book.  They should make sure their sons are circumcised, refrain from eating shellfish, etc..  Last I checked, we are all equal under the laws of the United States, not the Bible.

I just don’t get it.  To call themselves Christian is beyond me.  I was taught at “church school” to care for the weak and the poor, not turn my back on them.  I was taught to give to charities – not because I had to, but because it was the right thing to do.  I was raised to help my neighbor when they are in need.  I was raised with a good moral compass.  These people are not good people, no matter how many times they say they are – you tell a lie long enough, you start believing it yourself.  They have no feelings, and by their actions, it may appear they have no soul.

By Hatchet, axe and saw….

After careful thought and reading various tweets via my Blackberry at work tonight regarding the happenings in the Wisconsin state legislature, I became very angry.  What I observed was a power grab by the Republicans, pure and simple.  They are taking away power of the people.  They are trying to take away our voices.  They are taking away the soul of the middle class.  In the greater Republican view, Wisconsin is the first domino to fall, then the rest of the states will follow.  What they did was wrong, and from many reports I’m hearing, possibly illegal.

I hate to see a class of people beaten down, whether it be those of color, gender, nationality, religion or sexuality.  What these Republicans are doing encompasses all of those I just listed.  It affects every walk of life who aren’t in the upper class of our society (millionaires and billionaires).  These are the people who teach our children, clean our streets, put out the fires, heal us and protect us from harm.  These are the people toiling in the dirt to produce what the millionaires/billionaires sell to others toiling away to buy their products.  What is happening is a return to indentured servitude and slave wages should the millionaires/billionaires get their way.

We, as a people, cannot let them get away with this power grab.  The first words of our Constitution are “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”  I see positive words in that – establish justice, domestic tranquility, general welfare, blessings of liberty – nothing about beating a man when he’s down.  The Republicans wrap themselves in the flag and Constitution, but it is not theirs to claim for themselves.

This is our time to take back the flag, the Constitution and our country.  We are a nation of laws, not of gods or corporations.  This country was built on the backs of our ancestors.  It was the working man who built the roads, laid rail for the trains, placed the bricks and mortar in our skyscrapers, assembles our vehicles.  We must never forget!!!

This is our time.  This is our moment to shine.  The time is now to come together and fight for our constitutionally given “right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”  The battle has begun, we will not waver, we will not lose!!!!

Teabaggers are getting a bit desperate over Wisconsin

The Teabaggers are getting desperate in Wisconsin and, in my opinion, losing.  I got an e-mail not too long ago (which I’ll poste below in full, minus the links to show of their desperation to defeat us Progressives in this fight over collective bargaining and unionization.  But before I do, please visit the Moveon.org/ActBlue page to make a contribution for the recalls to help win this fight.  It’s not only a fight for the people of Wisconsin, but a fight for all Americans!!!

Hey Lloyd – F.U.!!!

Hello friends, Lloyd Marcus here - Vice Chairman of The Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama.

The news media is reporting that we are being outpaced in fundraising and momentum in the critical battle in Wisconsin between Barack Obama and the labor union mobs vs. Republican Governor Scott Walker.

One media outlet notes that besides the $400,000+ labor union ad campaign is that the liberals have raised another $250,000+ for their effort to recall Republican State Senators, in an effort to deny Governor Walker the Republican majority he now enjoys in the legislature.

And here's what Greg Sargent of the Washington Post reports:

So how's the drive to recall Wisconsin GOP state senators going? If these new numbers the Wisconsin Democratic Party shares with me are accurate, it's already exceeding expectations in a big way.

Several Republican State Senators are said to have become "wobbly" and are now considering whether to abandon Gov. Walker, because of the political pressure they are facing.

Friends - this is all ridiculous!   We must rally together and beat the liberals on this vitally important battle ground in Wisconsin.  For the past two years we rallied millions of Americans together for tea party principles of a return to constitutional principles, free markets and fiscal responsibility.

Well, we must do it again now in Wisconsin.  We've raised just over $50,000 for our TV and radio ad campaign supporting Gov. Scott Walker.  But you can do the math:  the liberals are spending over $650,000 to our $50,000.  No wonder the polls show Gov. Walker has lost support over the past 10 days.

Now is the time for us to strike back.  But we need everyone's help to be successful.

We will launch our largest TV ad buy yet for Governor Walker in the next 18 hours - provided you, the patriots of America, can help us raise the money to buy the airtime.

Please support our efforts to purchase TV and radio airtime in Wisconsin, by making a contribution.

Please contribute $25, $50, $100, $500, $1,000 or more all the way up to the maximum allowed contribution of $5,000.  We're looking for 8 more people to donate $500 or more by 7 PM on Wednesday.

Now, please view our pro-Walker TV ad, and send this out to everyone you can!

We can't afford to lose this fight - and let Gov. Walker down.  Barack Obama's "Organizing for America" is putting everything they've got into their efforts to win this fight in Wisconsin, and we must respond by giving it everything we've got!

So please, make the most generous contribution to this ad campaign that you can afford.

They are looking for (as we would say in Vegas) Whales to contribute.  As my twitter friends in “Anonymous” would say – we are Legion & We are many.  Please give what you can!!! I made mine – you’re turn!!!

What we're fighting for...

It pains me to see so many people still out of work after the Bush Crime Family tanked the economy and left everyone else to clean up the mess. Now we have Republican thug governors going after the last bastion of hope for many Americans: the right to organize and bargain for decent wages, benefits and with any luck, a pension for their retirement. I'm not in a union. I live in a Right To Work state. I live in a city that thrives on tourism, and when the Great Recession hit, I saw Las Vegas dry up. Only now is it starting to pick up again.

There is a strong union here that is present in most of the hotels and without them, there would be lower wages for all who work here.  The non-union hotels pay comparable wages to union hotels, only to fend off attempts at organizing them.  But since the recession hit, layoffs occurred and many are working larger areas, but little by little people are being hired again as business picks up, but it probably won't be at the levels it used to be at.

But this boils down to the rich and Republicans trying to turn this into a third world country and force citizens to work for slave wages ala Wal-Mart (who happens to be very anti-union).  By taking away unions, they are, in affect, preventing any kind of organizing.  They don't like it when the electorate is organized (or educated, for that matter) because it's those people who won'y vote for them.  They are all about power and power grabs.  Randi Rhodes says it best when she says "Republicans know how to win elections, but they don't know how to govern."

Everyone deserves to live above the poverty line.  Everyone deserves to be healthy.  Everyone deserves a roof over their head. But no one deserves to be beaten down.  This is why we fight!!!!

Not in Kansas - Apparently
