Heroes [A Rant]

[Begin Rant] Last night as I was walking out of the theater (after seeing Wonder Woman again), there was a couple walking next to me hand-in-hand. The guy says to the girl "Well, at least there weren't a lot of liberal messages in it." My ears perked up and I shot him an evil glance. Then I went home and I stewed about the comment most of the night and that lead me to this post.

I should have told his he's full of shit. 95% of superheroes (DC & Marvel) are liberal. They don't talk about politics in the movies, but their actions tell a different story.

The heroes are the ones on the battlefield doing what is right for the world. They are altruistic in their ways. They save people from getting hurt. They go above and beyond with disregard of their own safety to help others. They are the Light in this world. They fight the forces of Darkness.

Maybe if they paid more attention to the parables in their holy books, they would understand. Until then, they will remain lost and not understand what a real Hero is. [End Rant]

About those Celebrities having voices

[Begin Rant] So, you’re sick of hearing “Liberal” celebrities voice their political opinion??  Really???  Bite Me!!! Celebrities have been doing it for a very long time – speaking out for the pale and downtrodden of society. They are the voice people need because sometimes those in power don’t listen to voices like mine or yours.

They have been doing this for ages. But everyone seems to be focused on “Hollywood” and actors and actresses speaking out. This goes far beyond the stars in the tiny hamlet adjacent to Los Angeles.

It goes to our music as well. Rock and Roll and Rap/Hop-Hop have always had a social and political conscience. They talk about subjects you don’t hear in Country Music since that genre is so wrapped up in a god and country, it only knows one type of value – there’s not many socially aware country songs.

Frank Sinatra was at the forefront of racial integration. He was for Civil Rights. He was for school integration.

Artists of the 1960’s came of age in the Vietnam era writing about the perils of the nation at war and songs of peace. Some were even big enough to voice opposition to elected leaders.

Music was a vehicle to voice a political opinion, but people tend to forget about that. It has weaved into the fabric of society. Many just hear a good beat or guitar riff, but rarely hear the words.

The 1970’s saw the birth of progressive rock and longer songs, but the messages were still there. You just had to know where to look. They were subtle, but still there.

Skip to the 80’s – songs took on the cold war, the environment (acid rain come to mind?), consumerism… The list goes on and on.

But don’t tell me it’s just “Hollywood.”

What is sad is you have “Conservative” celebrities sitting in the shadows, thinking they might get picked on or lose roles for their political leanings. That’s bullshit. They are cowards – they meet in Secret (Friends of Abe). The most vocal people they have are all nuts (see: Ted Nugent).

So, next time you want to talk about celebrities voicing their opinions, you might want to shut off your radio – you might be hearing a song by someone who has an opinion. {End Rant]

I Finally Found Myself

My name is Paul.

I never understood who I was.

Now I know who I am.

What it took to bring me to this point.

Why I am saying this here and now.

I’ve never said it in a public forum, but a few close and trusting friends know. I’m going to say it now… Here goes nothing…

I’m Bisexual.

There I said it. It wasn’t so difficult. I thought it would be, but it wasn’t. I figured it was time as I am nearing the half century mark in my life.

That’s not to say I’ve never dated or slept with my own gender. My exploration and curiosity days are long gone. It was when I was young I didn’t understand my attractions. I never knew why I was drawn to a Hardy Boy and Wonder Woman, or in my teen years, a Superman and a Supergirl. I never understood why I had crushes on male classmates but at a young age, not as strong as crushes I had on female classmates, but the attractions were there.

For years, I fought with myself regarding my sexuality. I would sometimes withdraw into myself. Although I am an introvert by nature, I would just not leave my house, except for work. The only way to find acceptance for my sexuality would be for me to accept me for who I am. I am who I am and I accept me. I love me. In the end, it will always be me. I have to learn to love myself. Something that I have been dealing with most of my life. It’s been a long road, and now that I can accept my bisexuality as who I am, I can learn to love myself as a whole person.

Over the years, I have encountered many people within the LGBT community. Most are accepting of the “B” of the LGBT, but some aren’t. Same goes for the “straight” community regarding the “B” in the LGBT. It’s probably one of the reasons I decided to keep to myself for so long. Nowhere to fit in.

For years, I could be open about love for a female, but dead silent if I had feelings for a male. I’ve decided it’s time to learn to not to care what others think and just do what comes naturally for me. This is my life. If someone wants to continue on my life’s journey, they are welcome to tag along. If not, well, it was a hell of a journey up to this point. I wish you well.

I thought it was time to come out when the Proposition 8 fight was happening in California a few years back, but I didn’t do it. I don’t know why. I was fighting for and supporting my allies in the LGBT community, but I fell short and became as silent as the “B” in LGBT.

I thought it was time to come when same-sex marriage was ruled constitutional by SCOTUS, but still remained silent. I was proud but quiet.

Now, with the anti-transsexual “bathroom bills” popping up in various states, I felt it was time.

People tend to fear what they don’t understand or what their religion tells them to fear. Their god tells them that LGBT people are “sinners”. That we’re “unnatural”. That our feelings don’t count. We’re a “less than” of society. We deserve less rights because we don’t fit what their “good book” says. But we do. We deserve every right afforded to the heterosexuals, regardless of what a book of fairytales says. We are humans and, believe it or not, some of us do not believe in these deities they worship.

Lately, I’ve been posting “Bisexual” items on my Facebook wall. For years, I’ve been posting things in solidarity for the LGBT cause as a “straight ally”, but now things are personal. I’ve come to accept who I am and no longer afraid to hide behind a mask. No, I am not going to publicly “out” myself, but if someone were to ask me a direct question, I will answer “Yes, I am bisexual”. Of course, if they don’t know me by now or haven’t figured it out by now, they really haven’t been paying attention.

That’s my story. I hope you learned a bit about who I am and stick around for the next chapter.

Failure to Vet Trump

I'm sure Donald Trump's presidential aspirations would be in the dustbin of history had his contenders vetted his background early on and challenged him on it rather than treat his candidacy as a joke and let it fester, thus giving rise to the dregs of humanity rising above the slime he's created.

Comment Regarding Guns

"Well Regulated". Not hard to understand. The government has and can regulate any and all firearms, much to the chagrin of gun owners. I've never called for banning guns for hunting - you can comb my wall - and if you have, you've never commented. Personally, you don't need a large capacity magazine for hunting unless you're a shit shot. Again, if it looks like something the Armed Forces uses, it does not belong on the streets. Also, why would you need armor piercing bullets - I've never seen a deer wearing a bulletproof vest. Some of the arguments made in the gun culture make no sense. It's NOT all about your rights, but my rights to walk down the street without the fear of intimidation from people walking around like it's the fucking wild west. No one walks around with name tags saying "Hi, I'm a good guy with a gun".

Fuck them all!!!

We've gone from "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." to "[...] the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." to "[...] shall not be infringed." I say fuck them all and start infringing. They are not in any Militias. That is all.

Rant about the Confederate Flag

[Begin rant] Just to be clear, the Confederate Flag (any and all incarnations of it, including the Battle Flag) does not belong on ANY state funded property. They are flags of traitors to the United States of America. No state park or state grounds should be flying it or erecting monuments to the Confederacy (aka Confederate States of America) as they were TRAITORS to this nation fighting for the right to OWN people.

Now, if you want to fly the flags at your home, get them tattooed on your arm, or have a flag pole shooting out of your ass, that's your business. You have that right. But to say that flag is heritage, you're saying you support what that war was fought for, IMHO. The Battle Flag was not erected over state capitols in the south because they had all fuzzy feelings for history, but to show supremacy during the Civil Rights movement.

As far as The General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard, leave it alone. Mind you, it wasn't public backlash for the show being removed from TV Land, it was a business decision from a corporation - just like the removal of the flag from many retail outlets. The car, in itself, was a character on the show. If a band like Lynyrd Skynyrd flies the flag at their shows, great - it's their show to do it at.

But the main purpose of this rant is to say it does not belong on PUBLIC property in any way, shape or form. It should be in the dustbin of history. If someone wants to erect a monument to the CSA, then it should be done with private funding, not public and on PRIVATE land. [End rant]

Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness

“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” are the words that stand out to me from the Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776. Such a short phrase, yet it means so much to so many people in this country. That is the reason we fight for what we believe in, whether a conservative or liberal cause, we fight.

But what are we fighting for? Boil it down to the simplest of definitions, we fight for a better tomorrow. This is part of the struggle we all face, but some more than others.

The Colonialists fought and struggled through a war of Independence against the British Crown to forge a new country.

The Liberals fought to free people of color from the bondage of slavery, which divided this country. The US divided, fought – the side of Liberty won.

The struggle for Civil Rights was a many decades fight. People were beaten, tortured, and killed for trying to get the rights to vote, to sit at the front of a bus, to sit at a lunch counter – to be a HUMAN BEING, and not a second class citizen. But this struggle continues as the barriers just take up different forms by way of different kinds of hate.

The struggle for Women’s Rights has also been a long battle. They’ve only had the right to vote for less than 100 years, and they couldn’t sign contracts or buy houses without having a spouse up until the 1970’s. They are the only class of people who have laws passed to regulate what they can and cannot do with their bodies. Misogyny does not bring Happiness.

Our LGBT brothers and sisters have fought a long battle, too. First they fought for acceptance and escaping the confines of their proverbial closet. They fought and won the fight to marry the ones they love. Our Transgender brothers and sisters still have some battles ahead, but they too shall prevail.

In the end, it’s always a struggle, no matter your skin color, gender, sexual orientation, nationality… We fight the battles, lose some, win others, but the winners are always on the right side of history. The Colonialists won, African-Americans won (but it’s still an uphill climb, but can claim many victories), Women are still battling misogyny at many turns but are winning, and LGBT are finally getting a victory lap they deserve. Our country isn’t perfect, but in each of us, we all strive for “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Ted Cruz is a Panderer!!!!

[Begin Rant] Expanding on a status I put up earlier: "I'm sorry Canada Cruz, but there could be 100 9-11 attacks and I still wouldn't give up Rock music for Country. That is all!"

What was said by Ted Cruz:

And here's where I call BULLSHIT!!!!

Rock music did indeed respond to 9/11. Rock music responded in many ways and by many artists. Cruz might be educated, but he's a goddamned idiot to not see it. He is within a few years of me in age, so I can honestly say many of the bands we grew up listening to aren't around anymore, so suffice to say, his "Classic Rock" line could, in theory, be true, but to say there wasn't a response by the Rock genre is a load of shit. Doing a Simple Google search of "rock songs about 9/11" gives you "About 4,260,000 results".

Now, onto this Country Music nonsense. I'm not knocking you personally if you listen to this genre (but I can say you can really do better, but I digress). To say that Country Music responded better than Rock is absurd, to say the least. Sure, there might have been a quicker response from the artist because they have songwriting teams like they did in the golden age of rock at the Brill Building, churning out songs that were ready to go for whoever was in a studio at any given moment. I've seen songwriting credits on many country albums and there are so many co-writers for songs, unlike a majority of Rock bands who write within the band (or write individually and present to the band). Add to this, Country artists release a couple albums a year, then put out a Greatest Hits after three albums with a new song to soak the rubes who already have the last three discs. So, in essence, it takes time to write a song.

I'm sick of hearing these BULLSHIT false equivalencies regarding firearms. Yes,  knives, screwdrivers, hammers, cars, trucks, motorcycles, planes, trains, etc. can all kill people, but they weren't invented for killing; Guns were. If this wasn't the case, armies would be going to war with a soup spoon in one hand and a meat cleaver in the other. So stop with the fucking excuses for guns. They are meant for maiming and/or killing.

Senate Republicans are fucking idiots. Really!!! Here's why (besides the point of committing TREASON with their Iran Letter). They absolutely HATE HATE HATE HATE Eric Holder as our Attorney General, yet they will not confirm Loretta Lynch as the new AG. Here's the rub. These cumstains that fuckbags like you elected don't realize is AG Holder's resignation does not take effect until his successor has been named. God, the fucking stupidity of these morons. Open Letter to Conservatives, Social Conservatives. Republicans and Teabaggers

Dear Conservatives, Social Conservatives. Republicans and Teabaggers:

I don't care who you worship, who you pray to, when you pray, what your holy books say, or for that matter, what your "god" says. None of that matters. What matters is what the US Constitution says, and nowhere in it does it mention "god." What it does say is this: 

"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

But I digress.

The Republican Party should just change their fucking name to The Religious Party and get it the fuck over with. They claim to have this personal relationship with their “god” and seem to know what Jesus would say or do – but they don’t have one fucking clue. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The USA is a SECULAR nation, it IS NOT a Christian nation, Jewish nation, Muslim nation – it’s SECULAR. Right now we have these cumstains called Republicans who claim to love our Constitution but do nothing more than trample over it with overtly religious laws based on their “Christianity”. Well, I’m calling BULLSHIT!!! 

Just because you don’t like abortion, it gives you no fucking right to tell a woman what to do. Your bible was written by fucking misogynist desert dwellers 4,000 years ago who treated women like animals. This is the 21st Century – time to live in the here and now. What a woman does with her body, and more specifically, her vagina and uterus is no fucking concern to you. It’s between her and her doctor. And if you notice, it’s all homely looking men who probably couldn’t get laid unless they paid for it passing these restrictive laws. Just because your religion says homosexuality is wrong, it has no bearing on our laws. Your belief structure was again, was written by fucking misogynist desert dwellers 4,000 years ago. If you want to throw one line of Leviticus at gay people, then Fuck You. When you start banning the sale of ham, bacon, banning shrimp buffets, stop cutting your hair, reading your horoscopes, getting tattoos, wearing mixed fabrics, oh, and most of all, DIVORCE, then we’ll talk – until then, shut your goddamned mouths about it. This about love and respect and you, my friends show neither. I believe it was the Jesus who said “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” So, when you start preaching love instead of your hate towards your LGBT brothers and sisters, then maybe I will stop calling out your fucking hypocrisy.

And while we’re at it, States of the Old Confederacy and those who are like that – stop with the Jim Crow era laws. You are making yourselves bigger bigots that you set out to be. The first three words of the Constitution are “We the People”, not “We the White Privileged Few”. Get over yourselves and stop with all these archaic voting rights laws. Before you know it, you will be the fucking minority. The Hispanic and Asian populations are growing, as well as the African- American population. You can gerrymander and pass all the laws you want, but before you know it, in time, those groups may turn around and gerrymander your pasty white asses out of your state. Be careful what you wish for – it will come back and bite you.

And to whoever might take offense at what I just wrote: I don’t care!!! The Republican Party is selling out this country to the highest bidder, raping the lands, poisoning the air we breathe, denying citizens the right to vote, and on and on and on. They don’t care about you, they only care about what corporation is filling their coffers to get re-elected without care of what happens to the poor, the elderly, minorities – they are all about the rich and wealthy corporations. So, in the end, the GOP is nothing more than a big FU to the rest of us!! 

Wish Them Well

Friendship is a funny thing. Some are strong,  some go beyond certain bonds and some fail. I value the friendships I've forged throughout my lifetime.  Some have endured since childhood,  some are new, some are real life, some are contained to a virtual world. But there are times when one fails and you have to walk away, if only for the sake of your own sanity. Sometimes it needs to be done. Just say goodbye in your own way and move on. This is probably more than I am going to say on this topic,  but it's something that has been plagued my thoughts.  "All that you can do is wish them well..."

Facebook Rant 07/10/2014 regarding Immigrant Children Crisis.

[Begin Rant] I don't give two fucks if you're a racist, Xenophobe or just a complete asshole combination of the two. We have a humanitarian crisis involving children traveling hundred and thousand of miles, on their own, to this country. The government is doing it's best to get it under control, but the fucking Republicans are not doing SHIT!!!! Yes, these children should be sent back to their home countries, but in a safe and humane way. These ignorant pig-fuckers in Murrieta, CA, aren't helping. By law, which was signed by George W. Bush ( William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008), the women and children are supposed to be turned over to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

I don't give a fuck what you might say, or throw at me with your Jingoistic and Xenophobic bullshit. These are CHILDREN, and as such, they should be treated with compassion - but many of you don't care. You lack empathy. This is not just our problem. It's everyone's problem. So pull your heads out of your goddamned asses!!! You don't like Hispanics, not my problem. You don't like Immigrants, not my problem. We are all children or grandchildren of immigrants - whether documented or not.

As far as Senator Marco Rubio is concerned, he can fuck right off, too. He doesn't want to help, either. I should tell him to repeal the Wet foot/dry foot rules concerning his Cuban brethren and deport every fucking one of them - let's see how fast he helps these kids!!!

Remember, these are CHILDREN. If you have no empathy for them, you're not worth my time or energy. [End rant].

[Begin Rant] The Republicans in the Senate aren't making a stand against anything with they way they are voting. They aren't voting on any bills, they are voting on whether or not to debate on the bill. COWARDS!!! The whole lot of them. They are afraid to go on record as to why they oppose the legislation at hand. Why do they constantly filibuster bills to help the people in this nation. No debate on raising the Minimum Wage. No debate on Unemployment Insurance. No debate on Climate Change. No debate on moderate gun laws. Again, COWARDS!!! They don't want the people in their states to know what they really think of them. They don't give two shits about he people in their states. They only care about the slimy cumstains who line their goddamned pockets - you know, the Kochs, the Adelsons, the DeVos'. They want us to die, to live in a dirty environment, to be ruled by their Oligarch overlords, begging for a pittance to buy gas, food, and the other necessities to survive. This is a big election year and if you're voting for one of these motherfuckers, you deserve everything they take away from you. This election is just as important as any presidential election. Get out there and vote like your life depended on it. They will stop at nothing to STEAL your Social Security trust fund, your Medicare trust fund and hand them over to private entities and Wall Street. Keep those fucking dirty hands off your money you worked and slaved for all these years. And to the younger voters - this is about you, too!!! "General Welfare" Rant 04/27/2014

[Begin Rant] The words "General Welfare" appear at least twice in the US Constitution, yet the ignorant, greedy, Constitution-loving cumstain Republicans and Libertarians kind of overlook them, expecting the survival of the fittest mentality (ironic taking an Ayn Randian stance over the Jesus way, while they claim to be "god fearing" ignoramuses).

The "Preamble": "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, =====> promote the general welfare <=====, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Article I, Section 8, Clause 1: "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and ====> general welfare <==== of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;"

They don't give a shit about the common man. It's all for the rich and the newly formed persons, (no thanks to a corporate owned SCOTUS), Corporations. If you're a greedy scum sucking Republican or Libertarian who doesn't care about your fellow American, or if they starve, or the old lady down the street has to live on cat food, or a child has to go hungry before or at school, this I say to you: Go Fuck Yourself!!! Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired [Facebook Rant 02/16/2014]

Begin Rant] "Henry Drummond: As long as the prerequisite for that shining paradise is ignorance, bigotry and hate, I say the hell with it."

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired of it all. I don't understand why the so-called religious are so up in arms over same sex marriage. They choose one line in Leviticus for their hatred and bigotry, yet they ignore the other laws in that part of the "good book". What is is about one verse in Leviticus that turns these people in to fucking lunatics?? There are other lines in that book that are ignored and ignored often. The Jesus said “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (NIV, Matthew 5:17–18)," so wouldn't all the laws be applicable to all??? So until these fucking delusional folk give up the pork, stop getting tattoos, cutting their hair, etc., they will always be fucking hypocritical shitstains in my eye.

Now, onto science. When the bible was written by illiterate goat herders in the Middle Eastern desert, they still thought the world was flat, and the sun revolved around the earth. There are those who feel this "book" is historical fact and the earth is 6-10,000 years old. If the "story" of creation is indeed "fact", it's missing a whole lot of information. The biggest question is this, and no one can give a straight answer for it (which convinces me it's all BULLSHIT: "God" created Adam and Eve. They had two sons. One son killed the other. Where did the one still alive get his wife??? Sorry, but I will side with science. Then this "god" floods the earth and some sheep herder is ordered to build an ark and put two of every kind on it, but there's no way he walked to seven continents to collect animals. More BULLSHIT and fairytales. 

Religion has been the reason for most wars because no one can decide whose god is better. I'm not here to tell you to stop believing in whatever you believe, but when your beliefs infringe upon the lives of others or impede progress in the sciences, I will stand up and shout. My rights are not "god given", but rather "Constitutuionally given". There is a reason god is not mentioned in out most sacred text - our founders knew the dangers of mixing religion and state. Just because your god forbids you to do something, doesn't mean those rules are meant for everyone. When you push your beliefs on others, you deserve to be pushed back on it. You have zealots like Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee pushing their beliefs on others just because they don't like gay marriage, states trying to push bullshit theories like "Intelligent Design" (which is a pretty sounding name for Creationism), and crackpots like David Barton trying to rewrite history in some far out way. This country is a melting pot of races, nationalities, religions and ideas - many don't see eye to eye, but that is what makes this country so unique. 

I'm just sick and tired of being sick and tired. I still have the fight left in me, I won't back down, and I will stand up to any and all bullshit I see. You're free to believe what you believe in, and I am free to believe in what I believe - but in this country I am free to call it out.

[Begin Rant] Don't kid yourselves. The Republican Party doesn't give two shits about you. If you don't make a million dollars a year, you're just a pawn for their re-election. They cut back on funding for the sciences (National Institutes of Health) that help people to preserve tax cuts for Big Oil & Gas, They cut back on funding for the FDA which protects our food supply, they cut back on the EPA which protects our environment (see West Virginia) - all the while feeding the massive Military Industrial Complex (that Dwight D. Eisenhower warned us about).

If you're not a fetus, they don't care about you - you can drop dead once you pop out of the womb as long as it doesn't affect them having to defend you or fund you in anyway - unless your fucking birth certificate is a goddamned corporate charter. Wake the fuck up people. The GOP has done absolutely nothing to advance this country in the last 40 years - they are holding us back. Fuck the billionaires like the Koch Brothers. Fuck the silver spooned trust fund babies like Paris Hilton. It's time they paid more in taxes to advance this country. Repeal all the tax cuts that started with Rotting Ronald Reagan, reduce the money feeding the military (it won't hurt them - we have the biggest military in the world), fix our crumbling infrastructure, etc.

So, if you're one of those "single issue" voters, I feel sorry for you - you're just a fucking pawn in the GOP's game. They don't like people of color (as much as they claim they don't), they don't like gay people (because the bible tells them so), they don't like the immigrant (because they will vote against them should they become citizens), they don't like the poor (they think they get everything they are trying to give to their rich benefactors). Wake the fuck up!!! You're voting against your own interests!!! [End Rant]
