Jon Porter (R-NV03) - Worst Person In The World

CongrASSman Jon Porter (R-NV03) was named "Worst Person In The World" today by Keith Olbermann on Countdown... See - I'm not the only one!!!

Here is why.... Las Vegas Review-Journal. More proof he has his head up his ass.

Gasoline prices could rise to about $9 per gallon if the United States withdrawstroops from Iraq prematurely, Rep. Jon Porter said he was told on a trip to Iraq that ended this week.

The Nevada Republican, who returned Tuesday from his fourth trip to Iraq, metwith U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus, U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker, Iraqi Deputy President Tariq al-Hashimi and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh.

"To a person, they said there would be genocide, gas prices in the U.S. would rise to eight or nine dollars a gallon, al-Qaida would continue its expansion, and Iran would take over that portion of the world if we leave," Porter said Wednesday in a phone interview from Las Vegas.

Porter did not elaborate on the assessment that gasoline prices could spike. His spokesman, Matt Leffingwell, said afterward that the scenario "makes sense if Iran moves into Iraq."Porter "can't speculate directly on what is going to happen with gas prices, but the market prices for oil reflect the stability in that region," Leffingwell said.

Senator Dodd Responds to HRC/Logo Forum

Here are some of the question and answers (full questions and comments here):

Chris Dodd answers questions that were asked at
the Human Rights Campaign and LOGO debate concerning the GLBT
community.

1. Do you understand the special needs of people in gay and
lesbian couples who cannot depend on their partners’ insurance for protection
because they are not a legal spouse? What would you do about
this?
I believe that every American, regardless of race, age,
income, or sexual orientation, is entitled to high quality health care. That is
why I cosponsored the Domestic Partner Health Benefits Act. This is also why I
have introduced a health care plan that provides access to proper care for all
Americans. My health plan will create a health insurance marketplace called
Universal HealthMart that is based on, and parallel to, the Federal Employees
Health Benefits Plan (FEHBP). Individuals and businesses will contribute to
Universal HealthMart based on their ability to pay. Premiums will be affordable
based on leveraged negotiating power, spreading risk, reduced administrative
costs, and incentives for technology and preventive care. Coverage will be
portable – insurance purchased in Universal HealthMart will follow individuals,
not jobs.
My plan will phase in universal, affordable coverage to all
Americans over four years. No one will be forced into Universal HealthMart. If
they wish, employers and individuals can maintain their existing insurance
arrangements. This plan is easy to accomplish because the model and
infrastructure for the plan, the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHBP) plan,
already operates in every county in the country.
Another significant feature
of my health plan is that coverage is available for all Americans regardless of
employment status, health status or income level. Individuals pay for coverage
within Universal HealthMart based on their ability to pay and the insurance
industry will be forced to end price and coverage discrimination against people
based on prior conditions.

3. Why should the gay community believe that Democrats will fight
for us, after allowing us to be used by the Republicans as a scare tactic in
2004 and after the Clinton administration failed to follow through with campaign
promises to us?
I have been a supporter of the GLBT community
throughout my career, and in the White House I will be able to do even more to
advance issues important to this community. My record shows consistent
commitment to the advancement of GLBT issues. I am proud to have fought long and
hard to pass the Family and Medical Leave Act, and I will fight again to extend
this legislation to cover same-sex couples. I have supported legislation to
expand the definition of hate crimes to include gender, sexual orientation, and
disability. I cosponsored the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. I have
supported and continue to support equal rights for domestic partnerships. I was
an original co-sponsor of the Ryan White CARE Act and believe in working to
restore this bill to its original purpose of promoting HIV/AIDS prevention. I
will repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. I have spent a great deal of time on these
issues, and in the White House I would continue to fight for you.

13. Would you put someone in a position of power who is known to be
anti-gay?
No. I would not put someone in a position of power who
would discriminate, or be outwardly hostile, against another based on race,
ethnicity, age, gender or sexual orientation.

Does this mean Bush/Cheney will attack Italy???

Or will Chuckle-nuts try to seize all of Italy's assets though an Executive Order???

Washington Post:

PERUGIA, Italy -- In a hidden corner of Rome's busy Fiumicino Airport,
police dug quietly through a traveler's checked baggage, looking for smuggled
drugs. What they found instead was a catalog of weapons, a clue to something
bigger.
Their discovery led anti-Mafia investigators down a monthslong trail
of telephone and e-mail intercepts, into the midst of a huge black-market
transaction, as Iraqi and Italian partners haggled over shipping more than
100,000 Russian-made automatic weapons into the bloodbath of Iraq.
As the
secretive, $40 million deal neared completion, Italian authorities moved in,
making arrests and breaking it up. But key questions remain unanswered.

Bedtime.....

Bedtime for me... The kids will be watching over things while I get some shut eye!!!

Just watched the HRC/LOGO Visible Vote 08 Forum

Just watched the HRC/LOGO Visible Vote 08 Forum and was quite impressed with most of the candidates... Not too thrilled with Richardson, though. Edwards was a little wishy-washy, but was OK... Clinton was in the good category along with Obama. Kucinich was very positive as was Gravel... These were my observations... Pam Spaulding at Americablog.com has an excellent rundown of the forum with her liveblogging. Would have been nice to see Biden and Dodd (Dodd will be posting answers to questions on his website).

I will quote one line from Pam's post:

Margaret Carlson mentions that the Republican candidates were asked to
participate in a forum, but they all declined.

List of the cowards:

Brownback
Giuliani
Huckabee
Hunter
McCain
Romney
Paul

Dumb and Dumbass

After mulling over how to write to Senator John Ensign (R-Prell-NV) and CongrASSman Jon Porter (R-NV03) regarding the inept passage of changes to FISA, I couldn't decide. I thought about being mean, but that wouldn't be right. So I decided to keep it short and sweet (in a condescending kind of way):

I want to extend my thanks for voting to strip all of my civil liberties
away and you stomping on the Constitution. In the words of the man you
support so much... "You're doing a heckuva job, Jonny".

PS: I changed the spelling for John and Jon, respectively.

Thoughts... and more Thoughts...

Driving home from work early Monday morning, I was changing channels during a commercial from the replay of Randi Rhodes on XM Radio 167 (Air America), I turned on channel 7 (The 70's) and a song that I liked was playing ("One Tin Soldier" by Coven) ... (band background can be found here). After listening to Randi, then hearing the song, I took the time to analyze the lyrics a bit more closely. For a song that was written thirty-eight years ago, during the Vietnam Era, the song has so much relevance today. I'm not sure, though, but it applies to George W. Bush and Co., and how everything he does benefits him and his rich friends and his and Cheney's thirst for black blood (oops - I meant to say OIL) - He is the Kingdom on the Mountain and "We The People" are the valley-folk belowand the soldiers sent to an unjust war:

Listen, children, to a story
That was written long ago,
'Bout a kingdom on a mountain
And the valley-folk below.
On the mountain was a treasure
Buried deep beneath the stone,
And the valley-people swore
They'd have it for their very own.

So, we get lied into a war, that has killed upward of 650,000 Iraqi citizens, and of this post, 3,531 American soldiers dead (and climbing). The Bush Administration keeps tellign us things are getting better, but as I see it, things are not. We are there, at least, until the Iraqi government approves the "Hyrdrocarbon Law" which will seek to enrich Mr. Bush and his Oil friends:

So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill,
Asking for the buried treasure,
Tons of gold for which they'd kill.
Came an answer from the kingdom,
"With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain,
All the riches buried there."

But as the war keeps going and going, with no end in sight, W. is in his bubble, Cheney working the darkside, Karl spinning web of evil, Condi looking for the next photo-op, and Gonzo still looking like a baby with a major case of gas, our nation has split down a red/blue line. We have all of the Democratic candidates wanting to bring our men and women home from Iraq, and on the Republican side, they want to keep things going forever - this is their Vietnam, in my opinion - and now, they are staring down Iran. No matter the outcome, I see the Republicans losing in 2008 for not caring. Not caring about the American people ("We the people"), for taking away our basic civil liberties (spying on us, reading our e-mail, listening to our phone conversations, rendering US citizens without Habeas corpus to protect us, etc...)... Now it's time for a call to arms, so to speak, to take back, rightfully, which was ours from the beginning:

Now the valley cried with anger,
"Mount your horses! Draw your sword!"
And they killed the mountain-people,
So they won their just reward.
Now they stood beside the treasure,
On the mountain, dark and red.
Turned the stone and looked beneath it...
"Peace on Earth" was all it said.

The more people realize what was lost, the more they will want it back. I know this is a long post, but it's been a long time since I've thought about anything to write until I heard that song a few nights ago. I do the right thing by writing to my senators (Harry Reid, D-NV and John Ensign, R-NV) and my congressman (Jon Porter, R-NV03) - even though my "R's" are in perfect lockstep with "W". Come November, 2008, this country will begin to heal:

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

Republicans Have No Hearts!!!

I don't get it... People who have worked all of their lives are now getting screwed by the government and the insurance plan they'vepaid into all of their lives... What I'm referring to is Social Security and Medicare...

Boston.com:

WASHINGTON -- The calls are starting to come in from shocked or angry
seniors. They have just learned that their Medicare drug plans are maxing
out on early coverage and that they must spend $2,850 from their own pockets
before coverage will resume.

John Q. Public can get a minimum wage increase, only if the the heirs of the Wynn's, Kerkorians, Lanni's, (Vegas) Fertitta's, (Houston) Fertitta's, et al. get a break on the Estate Tax... I hope who ever reads this that lives in NV - John "Hair-Do" Ensign will fall into this, too!!!

Washingtonpost.com:

The House, at about 1:30 a.m. yesterday, voted 230 to 180 to raise the
minimum wage to $7.25 an hour, from the $5.15 rate on the books since 1997. The
bill also would exempt from taxation all estates worth as much as $5 million --
or $10 million for a married couple -- and apply a 15 percent tax rate to
inheritances above that threshold and as much as $25 million. For estates
exceeding $25 million in value, the tax rate would be 30 percent.
Most congressional Republicans support the estate-tax cuts and oppose the minimum wage increase. Most Democrats take the opposite positions. Democrats said they saw a two-edged strategy in the GOP decision to couple the issues.
Democrats' eagerness to raise the minimum wage might attract enough support in the Senate as well as the House to pass the estate-tax cut, a major GOP goal. But if Senate Democrats block the bill because of their aversion to the estate-tax cut -- as
their leaders have vowed to do -- House Republicans may at least be able to
blunt Democratic accusations that they made no effort to help the working
poor.
